Master of Science in Photonics student Rohan Sharma has been awarded a 2021 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. “Sharma receives this award for his potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related fields”, SPIE says.

The Brussels Studies Institute (BSI) launches the first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) entirely dedicated to this city-region under its multiple historical, geographical, sociological, political, administrative or urbanistic facets.
All students in the final year of the Master of Science in Photonics Engineering programme carry out a master thesis project during which they have the opportunity to perform new research on the topic of their choice. VUB master thesis student David De Vocht saw his work published in the renowned journal of Optics Letters.
Despite the fact that 2020 was full of difficulties to keep the spirit of the students, to organise events, and to promote the chapter’s vision, the members of the Student Chapter in Brussels pull together lots of new ideas and initiatives, making these challenging times brighter and opening new possibilities for its members. The Chapter takes a look back at 2020 and looks forward to its transition from SPIE Student Chapter to B-PHOT Student Chapter and the prospective plans for 2021!
