Scholarships & Grants

VUB Scholarships for Master of Science in Photonics Engineering

Each year the Vrije Universiteit Brussel grants several full scholarships of 10.000,- EUR/academic year for the Master of Science in Photonics Engineering programme. Every international student enrolling at VUB can apply for these scholarships.

Every application will be screened on excellence and motivation.

All candidates enrolling at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel will have the opportunity to show proof of their technical knowledge during a scholarship interview preceding the final admission.

UGent Photonics Excellence Grants

The Research Groups at UGent also offer scholarships to excellent students on a competitive basis. All students who register for the Master Photonics at UGent are eligible to be awarded a UGent Photonics Excellence Grant of 5.000,- EUR/academic year without a separate application procedure.

The scholarships will be awarded by the UGent programme board.

All candidates who receive the UGent Photonics Excellence Grants must commit themselves to do a master thesis at UGent.

VUB B-PHOT Excellence Scholarships

B-PHOT, the Brussels Photonics Research group at VUB, also offer scholarships to excellent students on a competitive basis. All students who register for the MSPE at VUB are eligible to be awarded a B-PHOT Excellence Scholarship of 5.000,- EUR/academic year by the research group without a separate application procedure.

The scholarships will be awarded by the VUB programme board.

All candidates who receive the VUB Scholarship or the B-PHOT Excellence Scholarship must commit themselves to do a master thesis at VUB B-PHOT.

Students who graduate with honours will be invited to apply for a PhD at VUB B-PHOT.

More Scholarship & Grant Programmes

Next to grants available in your home country, there are Flemish, Belgian and European programmes that support students financially.

Erasmus+ credit mobility scholarships (commonly known as Erasmus grants) are available for the exchange period of 1 or 2 semesters in the second year of our master supporting the mandatory European mobility component. Students who are eligible for reduced enrolment fees, such as students with a scholarship from the Flemish Community of Belgium, will receive an additional 100€/month during their stay abroad.

* Foreign nationals can get study finance (grants) from the Flemish authorities. To be eligible you have to meet one of the conditions listed by those authorities. Eligibility will be based on the social and financial conditions of the foreign national.
