THE MASTER PROGRAMME
The Master of Science in Photonics Engineering is an English-taught 2-year master programme (120 ECTS) that leads to a joint degree from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University. We offer students a challenging engineering programme that combines core photonics courses with a wide range of photonics electives and multidisciplinary modules, e.g. Electronics and Information Technology, Physics and Materials, Business Engineering, Modelling, Measurement and Control and Life Sciences.
This multidisciplinary approach, combined with high-level training in labs and a strong link with industry worldwide, has proven to boost the employment prospects of our graduates to a maximum in innovative industries and research domains such as biotechnology, health care, green energy and environmental monitoring, homeland security, aerospace, ICT and Industry 4.0.

STRUCTURE
We advise our master students to follow a model track with both mandatory and elective courses at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University.
INTERNSHIPS
To have your first 'on-the-job' experience, the programme has a strong tradition in offering high-level internships in collaboration with leading companies and research institutes worldwide within the photonics domain.

INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY
Our master programme has a long tradition in offering Erasmus+ Exchange mobility: we have a vast network of partner universities and research institutes where students can spend a semester or a full year to take courses and/or do their master thesis.
ONLINE TRACK
The Master of Science in Photonics Engineering offers an online track*. You can follow the programme online in year one. Year two will be on campus in Brussels or Ghent.

A graduate of this programme is a ‘EUR-ACE® Master’. EUR-ACE® is the European quality label for engineering degree programmes which have been accredited in accordance with the EUR-ACE® Framework Standards and Guidelines. The Master of Science in Photonics Engineering was accredited by the accreditation agencies CTI and NVAO.
