Rohan Sharma awarded SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship

Master of Science in Photonics student Rohan Sharma has been awarded a 2021 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. "Sharma receives this award for his potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related fields", SPIE says.

Our current first-year master student Rohan Sharma (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), is extremely thankful for the SPIE Scholarship, as he sees it as great support for his educational and career goals. “By studying photonics, investigating latest advances in material science, and designing sophisticated optomechanical systems, I aspire to produce novel devices and quality research for sensing various life-plaguing agents”, says Sharma. “Many thanks to my professors and colleagues who helped me throughout my journey.”

Currently, Rohan is working on the development of multimodal spectroscopy for the read-out of living cells in microfluidic devices. He has published three research articles on optical waveguides for supercontinuum generation and optimization of evaporation modules.
